Bridge the Gap & Restore Your Dental Health
When a tooth can’t be saved with a filling or a crown, yet still needs to be fully functioning, Dr. Whatley may recommend a dental bridge in Mobile, AL, and the Semmes, West Mobile, and Theodore, AL, areas.
A bridge also prevents your remaining teeth from moving out of position, which can cause other unwanted dental problems. In addition, a dental bridge will enhance your ability to speak and chew normally. If you have a missing tooth, Dr. Whatley can replace the gap with a dental bridge.
What Is a Bridge?
Sometimes called a “fixed partial denture,” a bridge replaces missing teeth with artificial teeth and “bridges” the gap where one or more teeth used to be. Bridges are made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of materials, to match your natural teeth. A fixed bridge is attached to surrounding teeth for support. Unlike a removable bridge, a fixed bridge must be removed by a dentist.
A traditional dental bridge replaces one or more teeth with solid, stable dental crowns. If you replace one missing tooth with a dental bridge, your bridge will consist of two traditional hollow dental crowns flanking one replacement tooth (crown). We can even attach your dental bridge to dental implants.
After Care for Dental Bridges
After your bridge is installed, we encourage you to care for your bridge as you would your regular teeth. A proper brushing and flossing routine is usually the only maintenance necessary. Please contact our office if you have any discomfort once your bridge is in place.
